Drawing Festival and the Danish Championship in Drawing
Denmarks most talented and creative young artists will make drawing a fascinating spectator sport, Saturday, April 20, when they compete for the title of Denmarks Best Illustrator 2013. Illustrator and film producer, Anders Morgenthaler will oversee the drawing battle at Horsens Art museum, where 40 selected children and youth compete in disciplines such as Classical illustration, Speed Manga and Drawing with tape. The competition takes place in three different rooms at the Art Museum, where the audience can experience the artists in person or follow projections of their drawings via big screen TV.
Behind the championship is one of the countrys most progressive art schools for kids and youth, The Art School at Horsens Art museum. Director of the Art School and originator of DC in Drawing, Jannik Broz hopes that even more this year will discover that the championship can be viewed live:
We have had a nice audience turn-out the first three years of DC in Drawing and this year we hope for a big break-through of public interest. I think many will be surprised to find how interesting it is to watch the contestants, while they draw, he says.
The contestants have been selected via an assignment, so the competition is at an advanced creative level.
DC in Drawing is the final event of the annual Drawing Festival week in Horsens, and Jannik Broz has a pedagogical vision with both the festival and the championship:
We believe that kids involved in the Arts do much better later in life. That is why it is extremely important that schools, among others, puts emphasis on developing the students creative and visual communications skills. We would like to influence that development. We want the Drawing Festival to be a place where kids and youth can meet the famous adult artists within the drawing world, says Jannik Broz.
The Drawing Festival in Horsens is arranged by the Art School and Horsens Art Museum in collaboration.
The event is sponsored for the 5th year in a row by the City of Horsens along with several colleges and Danish design businesses.
Lots of workshops
During the Art Festival anyone can challenge themselves with the many disciplines of Art at multiple workshops on all levels in several locations in Horsens. A movie theatre will be showing the newest and best in drawing and animation, and students from elementary, middle and high schools around the country will compete as teams against each other in genuine Drawing-Ninja Battles, a kind of heptathlon in drawing.
